Business Problem Solving – collaborative working module

The work of the HR function is beset by knotty problems that can be difficult to resolve in isolation. People often learn best by working on real business problems with other people, so this module provides the opportunity to learn whilst working on the important business problems facing your organisation.

Coming together with other organisations provides the opportunity to review your own practice in context, see what others do, discuss, debate and try solutions all whilst learning from others. At other times you want to work with organisational colleagues in depth on an issue that is unique to you and this module provides opportunity for both.

Four Workshops or Clinics

There will be four collaborative problem solving workshops with other Members each year. The topic focus of these will be agreed in consultation with Members and each event will combine a short amount of input from IES with the opportunity for Members to work together to explore and progress each others’ issues (such as raising workforce productivity, job redesign or performance management).

Three Action Learning Projects

As part of this module there will be three action learning projects running over the course of a year. These will have a particular subject focus, such as delivering effective performance management, or might build on topics from the collaborative problem solving workshops. They will provide the opportunity for a small group of Members to work together over a period of time to progress a particular issue whilst learning from each other, and being supported by IES consultants.

Three Critical Friend sessions

Within your own organisation, you will get the opportunity for three critical friend sessions with one of our experts. Up to half a day, these sessions allow you to discuss your problem with an IES expert who will share relevant knowledge and help you think through and develop an approach to your specific issue. The three sessions can be used for one issue over a period of time or be used to address three different issues.
