The Institute for Employment Studies was commissioned by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) to undertake a small-scale exploratory study looking at the relationship between the skills of the workforce and the skills necessary for entry to and success in self-employment. The researchdrew on: statistical analysis (using the Labour Force Survey and other relevant sources); a review of the relevant academic and policy-related literature; and expert interviews with key informants.
