Training and skills development

Skills and competence development is one of the key pillars in European employment policy and efforts to support the transition of the EU economy into a knowledge economy. This involves the development of skills and competences in areas such as the use of new technology and green technologies.

• IES is currently working on a project on green skills and environmental awareness in vocational education and training, for the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP).
• In partnership with the University of Brighton Business School, and IKEI Research and Consultancy, IES is undertaking a project building on earlier work funded by the German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) into employers’ recruitment and training processes for young people in two sectors.
• The Irish national training and employment authority Foras áiseanna Saothair (FáS) has commissioned research from IES to identify and explore innovative models of effective international practice in the training of early school leavers.
