Career trajectories/career profiles of care and development workers

In 2011, employment in care and development in the UK had expanded substantially and was expected to increase further due to demographic change. IES analysed the factors associated with mobility in and out of care and development jobs. We found that: * Employment in adult care professions is relatively more often started by older age groups compared to the rest of the economy. * Mobility out of the sector is significantly lower later in working life than for young care and development workers. * Training and development significantly reduces the probability of leaving employment. Based on these findings, older workers may become an important resource in meeting the rising demand for care and development workers. Recruitment and skills policies should more clearly address this important group of care workers.
