Careers Advice Service Customer Progression Insight

The Careers Advice Service was a universal guidance service aimed at adults (it was previously known as learndirect telephone careers advice). It formed a key part of the system to deliver the adult advancement and careers service in 2010. The aim of our research, for the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), was to supply insight into the factors that underpin a decline in the proportion of users achieving a progression outcome (by the LSC's Key Performance Indicators measure) between 2007 and 2008. The project comprised secondary data analysis, focus groups with CAS Advisers (Information Advisers, Learning Advisers and Careers Coaches), telephone interviews with nextstep prime contractors, and 60 interviews with CAS service users (drawn from the progression survey).
