Coaching, Women, and a Seat on the Board

IES worked with the Foundation of Coaching (New York) to examine issues relating to the coaching of senior women managers, looking in particular at the reasons why women decide to, or decide not to, apply for board-level positions.

The research focused on three European countries - Germany, Greece and Sweden - in addition to the US, and consisted of a literature review, interviews with key stakeholders in each country, and interviews with senior women managers who have received coaching.

The project aimed to widen the debate and increase understanding of the issues surrounding coaching and enable comparisons and transfers of best practice to be made between the USA and the European countries involved in the research. The main findings formed the basis of the report: Encouraging Women into Senior Management Positions: How Coaching Can Help.
