About this project

NHS North West

Simply put, people living and working in the North West deserve the best health and health care. Pivotal to making ‘Better care, Better health, Better life’ a reality for the people of the North West, is the role of the HR and Organisational Development (OD) community. It is clear that our ‘workforce’ will be the key enabler on the journey to develop, deliver and sustain services that are considered world-class. This is the start of that journey.

Human Resources (HR) and Organisational Development (OD) have a key part to play in supporting the effectiveness and success of NHS North West organisations in providing world-class services to the people of the North West. To this end, NHS North West commissioned IES to develop a model of world-class HR and OD supported by a self-assessment methodology.

Towards world-class HR and OD involves the following:

  • project workshops twice a year
  • a self-assessment methodology to help you plan your own organisation’s project, collect and review data about your function
  • an online survey every 18 months to collect feedback from customers about your own HR and OD function, with an IES helpline to answer your queries and provide you with the support you need
  • an HR capacity review every three years to give a good snapshot of the composition of the HR community in the NHS North West, and to benchmark your own function against this profile
  • peer support from one or more other NHS North West organisations for support and challenge to keep you on track with your world-class HR journey.
