a report researched by IES

In 1999, IES reported on a large-scale national study on student choice and decision making about higher education: ‘Making the Right Choice’. It was welcomed as being the first such major study in recent times, of mass higher education, and provided a wealth of information about issues of importance to a range of applicants, from different backgrounds and with different needs and aspirations, when applying for a place in higher education.

Two and half years on, the 1998/99 survey participants have been re-contacted by IES to find out how their earlier choices have worked out and, with the benefit of hindsight, what improvements they feel could be made to the information and guidance provided to potential students. This report is about this follow-up study, which has been funded by Universities UK and the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
