The pharmaceutical industry is one of the UK’s most research intensive and internationally competitive industries. It achieves its competitive position by investing in skills, and in research and development. This study examines skills, recruitment and training issues covering the whole pharmaceutical industry. The ‘Skills for a Competitive Future’ survey was commissioned by the Pharmaceutical Industry National Training OrganisaSkills for a Competitive Future: a survey for the Pharmaceutical Industry National Training Organisationtion (PhINTO) as part of their remit to assess and improve skills and training in the industry. At the same time, the study examines the industry’s contribution to the National Training Targets. These include training difficulties and barriers to training and the pattern of Investors in People recognition.
