IES’s 40th anniversary year was a strong and successful one, in which the Institute’s range of work and its influence both continued to grow.

2008-09 was a year of significant change and turbulence within the Institute itself, and in its external environment.

November 2008 saw the successful opening of the Institute’s new London office. This is a key plank in the strategic plan for the Institute’s development agreed with our Board of Trustees, facilitating closer links with policy-makers and other key stakeholders as well as access to a wider range of potential staff.

This was followed in summer 2009 by the move of our head office from the campus of Sussex University (our home since the early 1970s) to a modern open-plan site in central Brighton. As well as providing better working conditions and a more convenient location, the move reinforces the independent status of the Institute, allowing for links to be built with a wider range of partners and collaborators, both academic and non-academic...
