This report reviews the existing literature covering the factors that influence the choices that pupils and students make about studying chemistry and chemical careers.

Importantly, material has been selected on the basis of substance and impact. Material simply aimed at influencing choice is intentionally not covered. The aim is to get behind the decision making process and to allow the development of recommendations. Each piece of literature included is abstracted and reviewed for the lessons it can provide about chemical choices.
