    IES has collaborated with work-life balance charity, Working Families, on the ‘Top Employers for Working Families’ benchmarking and awards. The plan was to develop a benchmark which showed employers the ‘platinum standard’ in being a family-friendly, flexible employer. The idea has developed over the years to demonstrate to employers that flexibility is also about business excellence and that being flexible and wanting your employees to be flexible creates the right conditions for productivity and competitive advantage. This paper outlines the benchmark and standards behind the awards.

    The 2013 annual report from the European Restructuring Monitor (ERM) presents a retrospective of over a decade of measuring the impact of large-scale restructuring activity in Europe. It summarises restructuring trends based on a restructuring database that includes details of over 16,000 large-scale restructuring events – each generally involving at least 100 job losses or gains.

    This research aimed to gather evidence to explain the apparent under-representation of learners declaring a learning difficulty and/or disability (LDD) in ESF Priority 2 and 5 provision that was identified during the Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) of the programme. Alongside this the work aimed to interpret the evidence into relevant actions and guidance to support the learning sector to address this apparent under-representation.

  • Young people’s views and experiences on entering the workplace

    This report summarises the findings of a small-scale exploratory research study on young people entering work, carried out in March and April 2013. The main aim of this study was to gather data directly from young workers to inform the development of Acas guidance for employers on employing young workers and those with relatively limited labour market experience.
