IES and iCeGS research for The Careers & Enterprise Company
This document explains what information we collect from you, why we need it and how we keep it safe. There is also information at the end about who you can contact if you have a question or complaint about the research.
Who will have access to my personal data?
The Institute for Employment Studies (IES) and the International Centre for Guidance Studies (iCeGS) at the University of Derby are doing a research project about the Future Ready Fund work experience activities for The Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) and JPMorganChase.
We are inviting you to take part in a group discussion. This is called a focus group.
If you take part, we will remove your name and anything else that could be used to identify you, so no one will know what you personally said.
Legal basis for collecting and using your information and your data rights
Data protection law explains how, when and why organisations can collect and use (process) information about you (personal data).
‘Personal data’ is information that can identify you, like your name. ‘Processing’ means what we do with your data, including: collecting, storing, editing/changing or deleting your data.
These laws help make sure that your data are managed safely and used responsibly. They also give you certain rights relating to your data and state that the CEC and the research organisations it works with must give you certain information.
CEC has decided that processing your data is important for understanding how the delivery of the Future Ready Fund work experience activities is working. Details about how your personal data will be used are provided in the pupil information sheet from the start of the programme.
Your rights
You have rights under data protection law to:
- see the data we hold about you
- ask us to change anything that is wrong
- ask us to stop using your data
- ask us to delete this data
- ask for your data to be shared or transferred elsewhere.
You can access the CEC Privacy Notice, which explains their policies for storing and/or processing personal data, here: https://www.careersandenterprise.co.uk/cec-privacy-notice-cookies
How will my data be used?
If you choose to take part in a focus group, the information you give will be used for research purposes only. IES and iCeGS will write a report that summarises the main findings from the research. Your name will not be used, and nothing in the report will identify you.
Your data will be held by IES or iCeGS on our secure servers based in the UK. We will delete audio recordings within 6 months. Other personal data will be held until 6 months after the project is completed and then securely deleted; for this project that is expected to be June 2031.
Who can I contact for more information?
If you have any questions about the research, please contact the project manager, Clare Huxley, [email protected].
If you have any questions about how IES protects personal data, please contact Anthony Lloyd ([email protected]), the IES data protection adviser.
Under GDPR you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioners Office at www.ico.org.uk.
