‘Developing an employee value proposition in a new world’ was the title of the master class last September (2012), for which 38 members booked. They heard presentations from Valerie Garrow and a case study from Haringey Council. The event drew on several streams of research – the psychological contract, employee engagement, and the employee value proposition – to raise issues that employers need to address in how they might wish to recast their ‘deal’.
Our full calendar of events for members is now available, with an engaging schedule of Masterclasses and Workshops. Details for one-off events including the HR Directors’ Retreat, HR Leaders’ Provocation, and the annual conference, will be confirmed soon, so keep an eye on your inbox for those.
Our latest HR leaders’ retreat on creating and sustaining high-performing organisations began by Penny Tamkin (IES) reviewing the research on highperformance organisations. This précised a mass of research from the last 30 years exploring the relationship between people and organisational performance through the lens of asking ‘if there was a link, what would we expect to see’.
Being an HR Director, or indeed any other senior HR role, is not just about heading up the HR function it is also about being a leader of the organisation. In July, we welcomed around thirty delegates to this year’s HR Directors’ Retreat (held for the first time at Wotton house near Dorking) where we explored what it means to be an organisational leader and delved into some of the specific challenges that it raises for HR people.
At Barnett Hill on 19 and 20 June, participants of the HR Directors’ Retreat were treated to a range of perspectives on innovation. Dilys Robinson has written a full and interesting account of each presentation.
It is easy to think of innovation as being something 'out there', something that is focused on new products, new IT or new services, something directed at customers or consumers. In a project for Eurofound, IES has recently been looking at innovations being made in work organisation and how these can support the productive or innovative capacity of organisations.
