Penny Tamkin, Associate Director

Penny TamkinThe HR and Employer team at IES is undergoing some changes, designed to improve our offer to clients and members. Thus we are delighted to welcome Emma Knight and Maggie Smith as HR Membership and Business Development Managers. Emma and Maggie will be growing the work of the IES HR Network with a view to making your membership even more valuable to you and your organisation.

Maggie and Emma will spend their first few weeks listening to you about your experience of the HR Network and what IES might do to improve our current offer. One, or both, of them will be at member events throughout the year so please introduce yourselves – especially in the early days when they won’t know anyone!

You will see some changes to our events and other parts of the offer over the summer. And, as always, you will continue to hear from Gwen about events and other member news.

If you have any questions or want to introduce yourself, please do get in touch: [email protected] and emma.knight@employment-studies. co.uk or call 01273 763 414.

In the meantime, here’s a little bit about Emma and Maggie.

Emma

Emma KnightMy background is mainly in the arts, most recently as Head of Development for Charleston, a house museum holding the largest collection of Bloomsbury art in the world.

At Charleston, and in previous roles, I have gained enormous experience in developing significant, lasting and mutually beneficial partnerships. I also have experience in project management, conferences and events, and teaching.

I was thrilled to be inducted into my new position with IES by attending the annual Directors’ Retreat in June. I was fortunate enough to meet some Network members there and to experience the Retreat as a delegate, soaking up the knowledge and experience shared at each of the eight hugely thought-provoking sessions. I very much look forward to meeting all of our members and learning more about what the HR Network does and how we might be able to do it better!

Maggie

Maggie SmithI may have already met some of you at the recent Network seminar on Openness, or at the Directors’ Retreat, and I’ve been an associate for IES for a number of years. In the days that I’m not working at IES I’ll be continuing with the leadership development and coaching that I’ve been working on for five years or so. In my coaching and leadership work I take a strengths-based and positive psychology approach to help individuals, teams and organisations perform at their best – I aim to bring this approach and ethos to my work in membership here at IES.

I also work as an associate of The Work Foundation and the Centre for Charity Effectiveness at Cass Business School. Before the Associate work, I was Head of Events at The Work Foundation which followed a career in hotel and conference centre management.
