Masterclass: Embedding Diversity

We held an event to consider why it is that we cannot seem to achieve diversity especially in the senior grades of our organisations. At the event we debated the assertion by Binna Kandola (2009) that: ‘Diversity is about behaviour and outcomes. It’s about how relationships are enacted. It’s about how we perform in everyday situations based on how we think'. This report presents a brief summary of the key points raised and debated.

Research paper: The use of social media in the recruitment process

This project considered how and why employers use social media tools for recruitment, the risks and opportunities and the implications for provision of advice to managers, workers and employer and employee representative bodies. It also looked at the policies and strategies employers can put in place to manage legal and reputational risks. A comprehensive literature review is supplemented with case studies of three leading UK organisations that had used social media for the purposes of recruitment, plus the results of an exclusive poll of HR decision-makers undertaken on behalf of Acas in March 2013.

European added value of applying the principle of Equal Pay for men and women for equal work or work of equal value

This study examines the Gender Pay Gap (GPG) in Europe and assesses the potential impact of the report adopted by the European Parliament in May 2012 (The Bauer Report). The research team undertook an internet-based literature review alongside an assessment of the limited available data on the impact of policy on reducing the GPG. This was then used to provide a high-level estimate of the minimum and maximum level of impact that legislative action based upon the Bauer Recommendations could have on reducing the GPG and increasing GDP.
