The Food Standards Agency commissioned an evidence review to investigate the culture and behaviours in businesses and enforcement bodies, and the communication between individuals in these two groups, to understand what works best to secure regulatory compliance particularly, though not exclusively, in relation to food safety. It forms part of the Agency’s response to the recommendations made in the Public Inquiry Report (2009) that documents the circumstances surrounding the outbreak of E.coli O157 in South Wales in 2005. The review was carried out following the principles of a rapid evidence assessment (REA).

This is the third in a series of reports summarising the outcomes of research to support the South West Higher Level Skills Pathfinder Project 1. This final report complements the two previous publications through a series of case studies of 10 English HE institutions (HEIs) on their institutional strategies to EE.

A new Fit for Work service (FFW, previously known as Health and Work Service) was established in 2014 to provide health and work advice and support for employees, employers and General Practitioners (GPs) to help people with a health condition to stay in or return to work. The aim of this study was to provide an estimate of the likely rate of referral by GPs to the assessment element of the new service, and identify the factors affecting referrals. One of the main ways in which employees will be able to contact the new service is by being referred by their GP.

These surveys for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) provide a snapshot of the current state of the veterinary and veterinary nursing professions, with the results providing information in a number of areas, including demographics, work status, job satisfaction and well-being, among others. The results also gauge individual views on the current state of the profession.

This report, published by the European Agency for Safety & Health at Work (EU-OSHA), describes the methodology and findings of a scoping study carried out by IES, examining emerging trends and areas of future concern in OSH and their potential for a future large-scale foresight study. A literature review, telephone interviews, online surveys and a consultation of expert opinion were carried out to identify and assess the suitability of these topics for study.

Their varied contributions illustrate the breadth and complexity of ‘employee engagement’ – a term that is easy to understand strategically, yet slippery when it comes to the detail of analysis and implementation.

Resilience helps people bounce back from adversity and stress and is generally seen as a positive characteristic. But it can be difficult to define, as the way an individual responds to pressure will depend on their strengths and personal style. Also, it may not be clear to what degree employers can create resilient organisations.
