Employment Outcomes for Women in London’s Economy

This report identifies patterns of difference in equality outcomes between women working in the public and in the private sector in London, to help inform the subsequent development of policies for women in London's economy. The work consists of three strands: analysis of existing datasets to provide evidence of the relative positions of women and men in London's economy; identification of areas of inequality; and identification of examples of employer policies and practice in addressing these areas of inequality. The research also considers: whether there were any significant differences between the positions of women and men employed within the public and private sectors; differences in employment outcomes for women from black and ethnic minority backgrounds and white women; and the situation of women with disabilities within the workforce.

The Role of Loan Commitments in Credit Allocation on the UK Small Firms Loan Guarantee Scheme

In this paper we provide empirical evidence concerning the nature of loan commitment contracts and the extent to which individual loan parameters interact with each other. Specifically, we consider how the quantitative allocation of credit, the loan amount, is affected or altered by changes to other components of the total loan package. By doing so we shed some more light on the type of real world trade-offs that credit constrained firms might face when approaching banks for funds, using the UK governments loan guarantee programme.

The Desire for Income Equality Amongst the UK Adult Population

Whilst there is a volume of literature mapping out the evolution, causes and implications of income inequality across countries, there is little in-depth evidence concerning the desire of populations for income equality. This paper tackled this gap by presenting UK evidence from a large-scale adult population survey for 2003. The headline result was that 75 per cent of the UK adult population preferred a fairer income distribution.
