This report presents findings from research carried out as part of the evaluation of the London City Strategy Pathfinder English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Pilot. The research was commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The two-year ESOL Pilot was designed to demonstrate how work-focused ESOL training provision can support access to sustainable employment for people who speak English as an additional language. The main target group was parents with ESOL needs who were in receipt of benefits or tax credits.

This report outlines findings from a qualitative research study into the perspective of potential sponsors of migrant workers and overseas students on the new Points-Based System (PBS) sponsorship rules.

This publication is no longer available from the client. The Home Office commissioned IES to conduct research into the recruitment and employment of migrant workers in the UK. This research formed part of the preparation for change from the current economic migration system to the new points-based system. The focus of the study was on economic migrants: people who come to this country primarily to work, rather than asylum seekers or refugees. Data were collected between April and August 2005.

This research explores the attitudes of employers towards refugees and highlights the main issues. It aims to inform those who are in a position to make a difference, and to stimulate further debate on an important area of public policy.
