Jobseekers Regime test site evaluation

This research explored implementation and delivery of the first three Jobcentre Plus-led stages of the enhanced Jobseekers Regime. The revised regime, intended to provide increasing levels of support for customers during the first 12 months of unemployment, was trialled in four Jobcentre Plus sites, and qualitative research undertaken over a six to eight month period.

Evaluation of the Fair Cities Pilots 2007

The Fair Cities Pilots were an experimental programme, designed by the National Employment Panel (NEP). They aimed to increase the number of disadvantaged ethnic minority residents who gained steady work and new careers, and to test the effectiveness and value-for-money of the demand-led approach in tackling disadvantage in the labour market. This report sets out final results from the evaluation of the Pilots. It draws together the key findings, and in their light, discusses the implications for policy development in the welfare-to-work arena.

Evaluation of Year 2 of the Skills Coaching Trials and Skills Passports

In partnership with the Centre for Social and Economic Inclusion, IES evaluated Skills Coaching, a careers and coaching service for out of work adults. The evaluation involved: case-studies in nine of the areas running Skills Coaching trials; a review of literature on employability and employment and skills policy; an analysis of the pilots’ management information; and an assessment of the cost of delivering the service.

Pakistani and Bangladeshi Women’s Attitudes to Work and Family

This study explores Pakistani and Bangladeshi women's attitudes towards education and employment, and how their views around family, marriage and children fit with and shape these. The research was qualitative, and consisted of 60 in-depth interviews with women living in a number of major cities across Great Britain.

Qualitative Assessment of Jobcentre Plus delivery of the JSA and New Deal Interventions

This report presents the findings from a qualitative assessment of Jobcentre Plus delivery of the Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and New Deal (ND) interventions. The research, which involved interviews with staff from three Jobcentre Plus districts, explored how delivery might differ from the ‘prescribed’ model, and how that might impact on performance.

Evaluation of the Fair Cities Pilots 2006

Orchestrated by the National Employment Panel, the Fair Cities Pilots were employer-led initiatives designed to improve job entry and progression for ethnic minorities in Brent, Birmingham and Bradford. This interim report sets out the results from the first nine months of the delivery phase. The report draws together key findings and sets out recommendations.
