Getting the business partner role to work

An HR Network event

15th November 2012

Since the advent of the Ulrich model, many organisations have implemented the business partner role; at least they have changed their organisation structure to include the position. However, many organisations have struggled with getting the role to be successful in practice. This may be due to challenges of clarity in how it interacts with other parts of the HR function, ability to focus on the right ‘strategic’ tasks, difficulties in finding or developing enough people with the skills and capabilities to fulfil the role successfully – or just because it is a challenging role.

In the first half of this practical workshop we will explore the issues involved in successful business partnering and hear from participants about what is working in their situations. The second half will give people the time and space to work through their current issues in making the role successful, either individually or organisationally, with support and challenge from their peer delegates in a number of small working groups.
