For example, for RBS we researched the ways organisations define and measure excellence in customer service. We have helped the Royal Navy in developing their people strategy and the important metrics to judge its success. We facilitated a discussion on the role of HR client (business) partners at Kingston University and on the development of the HR function at Birmingham City Council. We have also given advice on the development or execution of reward strategies. Sometimes our involvement sparks mutual member support, as with one leading government department’s interest in establishing an open culture. Presentations to members have included those regarding employee engagement, the customer view of HR and workforce planning and organisational culture and values.
Talent management remains an area of high interest. We have offered informal support, informed by extensive recent IES research, to a number of member organisations in both private and public sectors. We ran a tailored Knowledge Knibble session for the HR community in Defra. This covered both strategy and process and the key issue of equipping line managers for their role in identifying and developing talent.
