Do the internal customers of HR - line managers, senior managers and employees - see the role of HR in the same way as the function sees itself? Have the changes in HR functions led to the kinds of services and support which managers and employees feel they need? Drawing on findings from interviews, focus groups and surveys, this study finds that customers want responsive, pro-active, professional HR support.

This report consists of a literature review on 'what works' in delivering improved health and safety outcomes, using data published since 2002. It is supplemented by an analysis of how HSE uses and generates research-based evidence, drawing on data from interviews conducted with HSE staff.

This study uses data from the UK Labour Force Survey (LFS) to look at the labour market situation and experiences of 'people with a seeing difficulty'. The report explores: individual demographics: characteristics of the population of people with seeing difficulties; economic activity and employment characteristics; multivariate analysis: factors influencing the likelihood of being in work; earnings; and state benefits.

This study provides a practical insight into how different organisations devise and use human capital measures. Drawing on a series of workshops and real-life case studies, it showcases tried and tested techniques for successfully measuring human capital.

Acas regularly evaluates customer attitudes towards its training provision, however, in the case of its bespoke Workplace Training service, this has previously been limited to collecting immediate feedback from trainees. This report describes the findings of the first ever survey to assess the medium- to long-term organisational effects of the service. By interviewing main commissioning clients, 3-15 months post-intervention, the survey evaluated the impacts of Workplace Training on its customers, particularly with regard to the promotion of effective employment relations, providing a rich source of new information

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) 2008 survey of the veterinary nursing profession was launched in January 2008. Questionnaires were posted to 11,156 people on the veterinary nurse database. This report analyses the findings from the survey. It reports on the following aspects of the veterinary nursing profession: personal profile, status, working practices, position, pay, career plans, continuing professional development and attitudes.

What do adults think of Higher Education (HE)? Is it relevant to them and their careers? Do they aspire to HE? Are they aware of HE and the options available? And could, and indeed should, they be encouraged to consider HE? The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills commissioned an exploratory piece of research to help them to better understand adults' perceptions of and orientations to HE, and help them find ways to engage and motivate learning, essentially to encourage greater participation in HE.

The study was designed to address a gap in knowledge about the circumstances that lead people to claim Incapacity Benefit because of a mental health condition and what factors contribute to people with mental health conditions returning to work after a period on Incapacity Benefit. The study also explored employers' understanding and experience of dealing with mental health conditions in the workplace.

This paper demonstrates how a well designed reward package can encourage employees to 'go the extra mile'. It uses real-life case studies to illustrate how a total reward strategy (encompassing both financial as well as non-financial factors) can accommodate the different wants and needs that determine someone's level of engagement.
