Kate joined IES in September 2015, and her research interests centre mainly on the field of health and wellbeing and social inequality within both the public policy and employer/ HR strands. Since joining IES Kate has contributed to research examining the use of mindfulness for organisational change, and several evaluation projects:  of the Workplace Wellbeing Charter for Public Health England; for Mind of their 'Blue Light' programme for workplace wellbeing; for the Social Care Institute for Excellence of the Carers’ Employment project, and for the Health Foundation of the NHS Innovator Accelerator Programme.

Kate is an experienced qualitative researcher, and has carried out observation and semi-structured interviews for IES research into Employment Support Allowance Claimant Trials for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). She has also has experience of analysing quantitative data, and during her doctorate managed the construction, dissemination, and analysis of a survey of over 200 NHS clinicians using SPSS.

Prior to joining IES Kate completed a PhD in the application of mindfulness therapies in the NHS at the University of Sussex, having completed a MSc in Social Policy & Planning (with merit) at the London School of Economics. Her previous work includes roles in policy research/fundraising for a mental health community development charity, as an education link worker and project manager for Rethink offering training courses for adult education teachers on mental health and managing challenging behaviour, as a support worker for people living in supported accommodation, and as an English/life skills tutor.
