SLN school evaluation

An evaluation of the SLN Uni Connect Raising Attainment Programme across two schools in Sussex, delivered by Action Your Potential. This will involve focus groups with students and their parents, interviews with teachers and staff at Action Your Potential and SLN, and analysis of GCSE attainment data.

Reviewing the effectiveness of ‘work first’ employment support

Review of evidence of effectiveness of different approaches to 'work first' activation policies, to try to inform future delivery of UK employment services. Project will comprise a rapid review of evaluations of ‘work first’ interventions, development of a typology for defining ‘work first’ support, and then an assessment of the impact and effectiveness of each type of approach.

Sutton Trust Impact Analysis

Data analysis to support the impact evaluation of The Sutton Trust's UK Summer Schools and Pathways to the Professions programmes. The work involves analysis of Sutton Trust applicant data to identify a matched comparator group of unsuccessful applicants for their submission to the UCAS Outreach Evaluator, and analysis of HESA student data on successful participants and unsuccessful applicants to examine differences in HE access and success.

Case studies of systems change across public services

Ipsos, working in partnership with the Institute for Employment Studies (IES), has been appointed to deliver an independent evaluation of The Leadership College for Government public leaders programme. The evaluation will collect data and evidence on the effectiveness and impact of the activities delivered. We are delivering case studies showcasing systems change across the public sector following programme participation.

ESF Workplace Health Champions Evaluation

IES are partnering with Rocket Science in an evaluation of Active Lancashire’s Workplace Health Champions training for SMEs. It will examine the benefits SMEs gain from having Workplace Health Champions as part of their workforce as well as any synergies with uptake of wider aspects of the programme such as health checks. IES will lead on an evidence review and partner in qualitative data collection from employers, Champion trainees and other local stakeholders.

Evaluation of #LookingAfterYourCareer

IES is designing and implementing an impact evaluation of the newest offer in NHS England and NHS Improvement’s suite of coaching support offers for primary care staff. To capture longer term impact we will be using a multi-method approach including a series of on-line surveys, prompted journalling and career tracking.

Supporting the foundations of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)

This project has been funded by the Charity of Sir Richard Whittington and is part of the Mercers’ Company Early Years special initiative. It is evaluating a 10-week intervention to upskill Early Years practitioners with the confidence, knowledge & skills to help parents encourage the foundations of STEM through everyday activities and interactions, and to support STEM skills in their settings. The project is being delivered by Peeple in collaboration with the University of Oxford and Sheringham nursery. The project is taking place from April 2021 to March 2024 and the evaluation will be using theory of change development, interviews, observations and outcome data analysis.

Following development of new organisation values the Home Office is seeking support to understand how best to ensure the values become the ‘lived experience’ of leaders, line managers and staff at all levels. IES are supporting the Home Office with this research project by undertaking a review of external, publicly available data and conducting interviews with examplar organisations to create a view of best practice approaches to embedding values in organisations.
