Project

Working Towards World Class HR

This was a joint project between 63 HR Directors in the NHS, with support from NHS North West and IES. In 2008, a model of World Class HR & OD, supported by a self-assessment methodology, was developed by IES. To inform the self-assessment, online surveys of internal HR ‘customers’ have collected views against the key dimensions of HR and OD as: a deliverer of internal services; a facilitator of people management and development; a provider of a policy and practice framework; the guardian of organisational values; and achieving a strategic focus and business alignment. IES is returning in 2010 to design and facilitate peer support workshops, conduct additional HR Customer surveys and co-ordinate dissemination.

Project

Developing HR Leaders

IES engaged in a six-month development programme for the HR leadership team of a large local council. This had six coaching sessions combined with three workshops designed to help the team identify their vision for the future of HR, their personal strengths and how they could work better as a team. In parallel, IES assisted IDeA and PPMA in their objective of ‘Raising the standards of HR professionalism in the public sector’ by helping to design a self-assessment tool for senior HR professionals to determine how well they are performing and progressing against a national set of agreed indicators that describe the minimum standard requirements to deliver modern, strategic HR services.

Project

NHS HR Capacity and Capability

IES worked with the NHS North West in undertaking an HR Capacity and Capability Review. The overall aim was to ensure that HR outcomes support the effectiveness and success of NHS organisations in providing world class services to people in the North West. IES produced a definition of ‘World Class HR’; a self-assessment methodology based on the factors that underpin world class HR practice; analysing web-based survey data on behalf of NHS organisations in the North West; and facilitating a series of intensive action planning workshops for HR Directors and key local stakeholders.
