Compliance with the Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act (1969)

IES was commissioned by the HSE to conduct research into the Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act (1969). This Act requires all employers (except those in the public sector and those employing close relatives only) to purchase employers' liability insurance in case an employee has an accident at work or suffers an illness due to work. The research consisted of a survey of 2,000 employers (across sectors and sizes), which aimed to provide an overall estimate for the numbers of employers that do not comply and a policy relevant summary of reasons for non-compliance.
