Green Skills and environmental awareness in vocational education and training

IES investigated the gaps between future skills needs and learning provision relating to nine 'green' occupations in eight EU countries: the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Greece, Italy, Germany, Hungary and the Slovak Republic. The research was designed to inform skills policy and the development of learning provision to meet needs of new and emerging occupations for the low carbon economy. The research involved interviews with trade associations and learning providers in each country, analysis of secondary data on the occupational profiles and qualifications of workers in these roles, as well as a survey of employers. It was carried out in partnership with the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and the Family in the Slovak Republic and the Institute of Sociology at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
