The Recruitment and Retention of People with Disabilities

Dench S, Meager N, Morris S | Report 301 | Institute for Employment Studies | Feb 1996

This report updates a previous IES study, exploring employers' policies, practices and attitudes towards the employment of people with disabilities.

The study examines employers' perceptions of the employability of people with various disabilities, and the extent to which they are prepared to accommodate disabled employees.

In recent years before this report a number of initiatives had been introduced, aiming to overcome some of the barriers facing disabled employees when seeking employment.

This report considers the influence on employers of a number of these initiatives, including the Employment Service 'disability symbol', Local Employer Networks, Access to Work and PACTs.
