Evaluation of the Showing We Care About You (SWCAY) Programme
Developing a logic model: Information sheet for interviews
Background to the evaluation
The Institute for Employment Studies (IES) has been commissioned by Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity (GSTC) to evaluate the staff health, wellbeing and benefit programme, Showing We Care About You(SWCAY). The programme includes wellbeing and physical health support services, some staff benefits, along with funding opportunities for staff-led health and wellbeing initiatives. IES is a leading independent centre for research and evidence-based consultancy in public employment policy and organisational human resource management.
The evaluation will examine the effectiveness, outcomes, and overall impact of the Charity funded components of the SWCAY programme, running through to summer 2027. The initial phase focuses on developing a robust logic model to underpin the evaluation strategy and inform all subsequent activities. To do this, we will conduct interviews with a range of people to gather multiple perspectives on the different components of the SWCAY programme.
What is a logic model?
A logic model is a structured framework that explains how and why a programme or intervention is expected to achieve its intended impact. It describes the process of change by outlining causal linkages in programme design, delivery and outcomes. The visual framework is often accompanied by a narrative that explains the context of the logic chain and describes the flow from activities to impacts.
A logic model comprises several interconnected elements. It begins with inputs, the resources necessary to initiate programme activities. These activities generate outputs, the immediate deliverables or services produced. The model then maps outcomes across short, medium, and long-term, illustrating the changes expected over time. Ultimately, these outcomes contribute to the programme’s overarching impact.

What does participating involve?
We will conduct a series of interviews with programme leads, managers, coordinators and providers to gain perspectives that inform the development of the logic model. Joan Bowen, Staff Health & Wellbeing Programme Manager, in collaboration with IES, have identified you as a person who would provide valuable insight at this stage. To ensure the interview is as meaningful and relevant as possible, it will be tailored to your specific role and perspective. It will explore:
■ Your experience and knowledge of the SWCAY programme and context,
■ Your involvement in resourcing, staffing, managing or providing activities for the SWCAY programme,
■ Your understanding of the outcomes and impacts from these activities and how these are monitored.
You will have the opportunity to decide which information you feel is appropriate and relevant to share.
Interviews will last up to 30 minutes and will be conducted virtually using Microsoft Teams. Participation in this research is expected (unless otherwise agreed with the individual’s line manager), but you will be asked to provide consent to participate and to have the interview recorded. We will refer back to the recording for accuracy during reporting. You do not have to consent to the interview recording, and it will not affect your ability to participate. In this case, we will take detailed written notes.
If you wish to end the interview and choose not to continue, you may do so at any time without providing a reason.
Our initial plans are to schedule the interviews between 3rd and 21st November 2025 and arranged at a time convenient for you.
What will happen to my data?
All data processing complies with UK GDPR. Your personal data will be stored securely on IES servers, and only IES research team members will have access. The personal data we use to contact you, as well as the interview recordings, will be deleted three months following the completion of the final evaluation report (scheduled for completion in August 2027).
Your anonymous data will be aggregated with that from other interviews to develop the logic model. Participating in this stage of the research is entirely optional and does not commit you to participating in future stages of the research. You have the right to withdraw your interview data up to two weeks following any participation.
For further information about data use and storage, please review the privacy notice for this stage of the evaluation.
If you have any queries about the evaluation, please contact the Project Manager at IES: Dr Sally Wilson, sally.wilson@employment-studies.co.uk
