Jobsearch: A Review of the Literature Prior to the Jobseeker's Allowance

Atkinson J, Pollard E | Research Report  | Employment Service | Jun 1998

Understanding why and how unemployed people search for jobs is vital to the success of any programme aimed at helping them back into work.

Here, evidence about people's jobsearch activities prior to the introduction of Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) in October 1996 is drawn together.

The study was commissioned by the Employment Service as part of its programme to evaluate the impact of the JSA. It found a great deal of consensus on many of the major issues.
