Skills Requirements and Priorities in the Environmental Sciences

Court G, Jagger N, Moralee J | Report 297 | Institute for Employment Studies | Oct 1995

This report assesses the labour market for environmental scientists with postgraduate qualifications. It looks first at trends in the number of individuals leaving university with qualifications in the environmental sciences and the kinds of work they do.

This provides the context for a discussion of employers’ views, focusing on their demand for environmental scientists and the range of skills they look for. The report concludes with a series of recommendations to the Natural Environmental Research Council, the main funder of postgraduate awards in environmental sciences, for whom the research was undertaken.
