We welcome the government’s proposals to introduce mandatory publication of ethnicity employment and pay gap information, and believe there are significant potential benefits for the UK economy, society, employers and employees from doing so. Our response to the government's consultation can be downloaded in full below.

Some issues discussed in our response:

  • Reporting pay levels may be counterproductive and misleading unless levels of participation are also reported.

  • Information employers report could also be misleading if the information is not benchmarked to local demographics.

  • Absence of any reference to reporting pay gaps by disability status.
