Webinar recording & slides: Working for the Future launch event
Final report of the Commission on the Future of Employment Support
This recording is from the in-person event that took place on Wednesday 18 September 2024, for the launch of the final report of our two-year research project, Working for the Future, led by the Commission on the Future of Employment Support, in partnership with abrdn Financial Fairness Trust.
The event featured a keynote speech by the Minister of State for Employment, Alison McGovern MP. In addition, IES Director Tony Wilson presented summary findings of the research ahead of a plenary discussion on the Commission’s work and priorities for reform in the coming Parliament. Tony's slides are available to download at the bottom of this page.
The discussion panel included:
- Alison McGovern MP, Minister of State for Employment
- Claire Campbell, Chief Executive, Timewise
- Andrew Carter, Chief Executive, Centre for Cities
- Mubin Haq, Chief Executive, abrdn Financial Fairness Trust
- Tom Pollard, Head of Social Policy, New Economics Foundation
- Pat Russell, Chair, Institute for Employability Professionals
The final report of the Commission sets out detailed proposals for reforming our approach to employment support, so that we can help more people to access better work and tackle deep-rooted inequalities in the labour market. It draws on findings from the largest consultation and evidence-gathering on our system of employment support in at least a generation: where we have heard directly from more than three hundred people and organisations with a stake in employment support including service users, employers, policy makers and experts from across the UK and internationally.
