Testing the Link Between Educational System and Recruitment Practice

The German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) tasked partners from the UK (IES), Finland (Research Unit for the Sociology of Education, University of Turku) and Spain (IKEI Research and Consultancy) with a feasibility study to design a representative cross-national survey of companies' recruitment practices, induction processes and training.

It tested the hypothesis in these countries, that the type of educational system (dual, school-based; vocational-academic) leads to specific forms of recruitment, induction and support processes based on the actual competences of graduates/trainees.

It focused on occupational profiles at the intermediate skills level in car service (motor vehicles mechatronics technician) and the production industry (business and administrative assistants).
