This report aims to help leaders in higher education as they address talent management in their own institutions. It is informed by previous research and extensive practical experience and highlights the learning from eight case study organisations across varied sectors. These case organisations were chosen for their relevance to the higher education context and workforce on the basis of a number of factors. These include:

  • Culture and history
  • Engagement in teaching and research
  • Needs for high level skills
  • International outlook.

In addition, these organisations represent public, private and third sectors. Some of them are very large, but others have roughly the same size workforce or are smaller than a typical UK university. They are at differing stages of maturity in talent management practice.
