This report presents the findings of research conducted by IES to consider the best way to support the rail industry to begin to train line managers in the rail industry on aspects of mental health and wellbeing.

Despite considerable investment in health and safety within the rail industry, there is a recognition that mental health is an area that would benefit from a greater level of attention, focus, and additional investment. However, there existed knowledge gaps with regards to the best training methods and the best topics to cover.

Funded by the Rail Safety and Standards Board, this research therefore identifies both the best methods and the best topics to teach to line managers on mental health and wellbeing.
