Evaluating Fit for Work Service Pilots

An IES-led consortium, including researchers from the University of Liverpool, the Social Policy Research Unit at York University, the National Institute for Social and Economic Research and GfK NOP, was commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions to evaluate the Fit for Work Service (FFWS) pilots.

The 11 pilots were designed to provide early interventions aimed at supporting people back to work after a period of sickness absence. Sickness absentees referred to the service were given a case manager to co-ordinate a range of interventions including liaising with their employer to help them return to sustained employment.
