Making the Decision to Enter Higher Education
The Institute worked with British Market Research Bureau to help the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) to understand potential applicants' perceptions of higher education and their intentions towards it. The research surveyed 16 and 17 year olds using a series of targeted questions inserted into large scale longitudinal studies of young people (YCS and LSYPE). It also explored working adults' attitudes towards higher education through a telephone survey. The research was intended to contribute evidence towards a number of policy issues pertinent to higher education including widening and increasing participation, student support arrangements, and demand for science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects.
