SME lending and competition: an international comparison of markets
The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) commissioned IES, working in conjunction with Deloittes and the University of Brighton, to conduct a research project to develop a better understanding of the competition of SME finance, the impact that the availability of finance has on SMEs, and potential policy interventions that could support competition in this market, with the aim of increasing levels of lending to viable SMEs. The study compared UK practice with that from relevant overseas countries.
