Understanding Doctoral Graduate Destinations

IES helped Research Councils UK and other stakeholders understand better the career pathways of doctoral graduates and the impact they have on the economy and beyond. Analysis of options for longer-term study on the career pathways of doctoral graduates indicated the best route to gather initial statistics would be to enhance HESA's Longitudinal Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (LDLHE) survey. This meant adding questions and the inclusion of all eligible graduates of higher degrees achieved mainly by research. The analysis of responses was used to inform the HE sector and contribute to information available to research graduates about career choices.
